About the college:

The college of Architecture and Planning came into existence in January 2005 as part of the restructuring of the University into a Collegiate System. In the restructuring, the Faculty of Environmental and Development studies (FEDS) and the Institute of Land Management and Development (ILMAD) were merged to form the College.
FEDS comprised three teaching departments: Department of Aechitecture, department of Building Technology and Department of Housing and Planning Research. ILMAD comprised two departments, Department of Land Economy and the Land Resources Centre.
The college currently comprises two main teaching faculties: Faculty of Architecture and Building Technology and the Faculty of Planning and Land Economy, which carry out both teaching and Research functions; and a research institute: Institute of Human settlements Research.

ADMINISTRATION OF COLLEGE

The College is headed by a Provost, Professor S.O. Asiama. He is assisted by Administrative and Academic Staff. The Administrative heads the Accounts staff. The Faculties and Research Institute are headed by Deans and the Departments are headed by Heads of Departments. The Academic staff comprise academics in a wide range of fields related to the programmes studied.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES
There are currently four basic student societies in the College for all students enrolled in the four teaching Departments for both graduate and undergraduate programmes. Graduate students are also members of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) which is for all graduate students enrolled in the University.
The four student societies are:
-    Architectural Students’ Association Ghana(ASAG)
-    Building Technology Students’ Society (BTSS)
-    Ghana Association of Student Planners(GASP)
-    Land Management and Development Students’ Association(LAMDSA)

INSTITUTE OF HUMAN SETTLEMENTS RESEARCH:
The Institute comprises two research centres:
-    Centre for Settlement Studies(CSS)
-    Centre for Land Studies(CLS)
It carries out research related to land, housing, the environment, waste management, gender, governance and poverty, and also diverse interventions targeted towards solving the shelter needs/problems of the poor in both rural and urban communities. The Institute focuses on policy-oriented research and extension services or outreach programmes. The Institute also undertakes teaching programmes through participation in workshops and student research supervision.
